2022 marks another New Year for the Singapore Association of the Visually Handicapped (SAVH) as we reflect upon our Association’s humble beginnings and challenging journey, how far we have progressed and what holds for the future of our visually handicapped community in the amidst of the current seem-never-ending Covid19 pandemic.
All of us are facing different degrees of arduous challenges during the pandemic, be it work-related, family-related, personal well-being or mental health. More so for the visually impaired and many have suffered enormous losses of income, uncertainty of daily life and routines etc.
We would like to share our accomplishments with those who have journeyed with us along the way as well as to cultivate new patronage and supporters to jointly raise funds which will enable us to improve and expand our existing programmes and services and initiate new ones to cater to the needs of an increasing community of visual impaired including an increasing number of aged visually handicapped as the population ages.
SAVH is holding a Blind Community Day hybrid event. The aim of staging the event is to raise awareness of the visually impaired as well as raise funds for SAVH’s operations and services.

SAVH honours Louis Braille; 4 Jan, the birth anniversary of Braille inventor, Louis Braille. On this day he is remembered for all the contributions he made in helping blind people to read and write.
World Braille Day, is observed to raise awareness of the importance of Braille as a means of communication in the full realization of the human rights for blind and partially sighted people. Braille is a tactile representation of alphabetic and numerical symbols using six dots to represent each letter and number, and even musical, mathematical and scientific symbols. Braille (named after its inventor in 19th century France, Louis Braille) is used by blind and partially sighted people to read the same books and periodicals as those printed in a visual font.
At SAVH’s Braille Production Centre, reading materials in English are converted into Braille for clients of SAVH as well as other agencies keen to provide information for the Blind. Our main services include Braille Lessons, Transcription of print materials into Braille, Production of Tactile Diagrams and Braille Signages, Emboss Braille on print name cards, Braille Audit Service and others.
In our pursuit to join the world to celebrate World Braille Day 2022, our Rehabilitation Sub Committee desires to advocate Braille education. Please view our educational Braille video Here.
Please join us to celebrate by donating generously to SAVH to run all our SAVH programmes which include Braille Production costs and also complimentary Basic Braille to the Blind community. You could donate to our virtual campaign through our giving.sg campaign or QR code attached above. When donating using QR code, please enter your First Name and NRIC in the “UEN/Bill Reference No.” field to qualify for 250% tax deduction.
