Singapore Association of the Visually Handicapped (SAVH) was registered with the Registry of Societies on 6 Nov 1951, under the Registration No. ROS 172/1951 WEL. On 14 Apr 1961, a unique Uen Number S61SS0119J was assigned to us. We were also registered with the Commissioner of Charities as a Charity under the Charities Act on 31 May 1984 with the Registration No. 0059.
In addition, SAVH is the approved Institution of Public Character (IPC No. IPC000443). This enables us to issue tax deductible receipts for qualifying donations to donors. In other words, donors are able to claim tax relief from their assessable income based on the amount donated, at prevailing deduction rate.
SAVH adheres to the guidelines set out by the Office of the Commissioner of Charities (OCC), the National Council of Social Service (NCSS) and the Ministry of Social and Family Development (MSF) for our charity activities. We report regularly to OCC, NCSS as well as MSF and work with all of them to ensure that we are accountable for what we are doing and to all whom we serve.
We submit the Governance Evaluation Checklist annually to OCC which publishes it for public viewing to help donors make more informed giving decisions. Our Executive Committee (EXCO) comprises volunteers who give their time and expertise for the benefit of our visually impaired clients. They are elected to the EXCO and serve for a term of two years. All EXCO members are not paid any remuneration and fees.
